A Recruiting Toolkit

Supporting a Comprehensive Recruitment Process

At a macro level, we assist companies in critical points along the recruitment process.

We use data to help companies identify the candidates they want to attract. In response to company and regional needs, we share and market what it’s like to live and work here, often dispelling myths and misperceptions. We offer support when a candidate and family visit the community. That might be with resources, information or an in-person community tour. And finally, through our retention strategies, we work to make people feel welcome once they’ve moved.

Some of the tools we use, highlighted in the report, include sites like LiveInFMArea and FMAreaTour and our FM Welcome Parties along with a concierge program to address companies critical workforce needs.

Data to Support Recruitment

We use a robust set of data tools to tell our region’s economic story and the impact of our work.

Our organization uses an economic modeling software (EMSI) specialized in labor market data, allowing us to assist clients with workforce questions and enhancing our proposals when marketing to new companies.

For example, we helped a company recruit new candidates with specific degrees and skill criteria. We’ve also communicated the region’s overall job postings and openings to give a more accurate picture of the regional landscape.

Displaying Data

The GFMEDC’s website dashboard (eIMPACT) highlights data, information, and analytics for up-to-date regional information. From population trends to education attainment and industry employment, you can always get an up-to-date look at our region’s economic profile.

Live in FM Area, a Virtual Tour

An asset for our regional companies and partner’s marketing efforts, the region’s first virtual tour supports local recruitment efforts.

“Currently, recruiting and attracting top talent in Fargo is tough. We have more jobs than job seekers, causing employers to look outside our community to fill our open roles. I am excited for the Virtual Community Tour as it will give candidates a great feel of not only what it’s like to work in Fargo Moorhead, but they can also begin to imagine what it’s like to live in our community. This will showcase so many wonderful aspects of our area that are unknown to people outside of the region,” said Teri Winkelman, Talent Acquisition Manager, Bushel.

360-degree pictures give a clear picture of the region and what it offers. Several hotspots within each scene provide additional pictures, videos or embedded websites.

Concierge Services

Like many of our partner organizations, a top EDC priority is to support workforce development; however, our organization is unique in that we work directly with primary-sector companies to support their specific workforce development needs. We connect with recruiters and hiring managers often, listen to their successes and challenges. Then we search for solutions. We might provide relevant workforce data or we might see a collective pattern and create marketing materials or other tools. Finally, we often join forces with our partner organizations and create a marketing effort like our Minneapolis Social Media Marketing Campaign.

Minneapolis Social Media Marketing Campaign

A collaboration among the GFMEDC, the Fargo Moorhead Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and the Chamber aimed to inform and attract Minneapolis residents to the FM region. The marketing campaign promoted the region as a place to live and work.

The marketing teams from each organization collaborated on the campaign that drove traffic to the LiveinFMArea site and increased awareness of the FM Region.

The ad resulted in a dramatic increase in traffic to the website. And an email sign up means we can continue messaging with updates on this great place to live.
