Connections to Support Long-Term Success

An effective workforce development strategy includes a solid retention plan. Ensuring that new residents and families are able to easily find resources and make connections is critical to our region’s long-term success. We continue to work with primary-sector companies to learn how effective their retention efforts are and how we can support their success.

For example, our organization has created the FM Welcome Party to help people integrate into the community and make connections.

FM Welcome Party

As the name implies, the FM Welcome Party welcomes newcomers into the region with a fun, laid-back party. New and current residents come out to mingle, gather information and make connections. During the event, our organization provides information on things to do and a few mini performances give party goers a taste of the region.

Each event averages close to 150 attendees with the largest event having more than 300 registrants.

“I always look forward to attending the FM Welcome Party and promoting it to my company’s new hires.  This year’s event was another success with great weather, food, and entertainment at the beautiful Broadway Square!” – Janna Diggs, Talent Acquistion Specialist, Doosan Bobcat North America.

The event, held twice a year, was started in the Fall of 2015.

Campus FM

Retention of talented young people is the cornerstone of a vibrant workforce. In 2021, Fueling Our Future aimed to improve our workforce retention by funding the launch of Campus FM.

Campus FM is a partnership between higher education institutions, businesses and community leaders committed to making Fargo-Moorhead the best place for young people to live, work and serve.

By bringing the region’s business leaders, career professionals and students together under shared vision, Campus FM is creating a community that students and recent graduates want to engage with and invest in long-term.

Culture Program

As companies work to attract and retain great employees, a common question from candidates is about the company’s culture.  In 2021, our organization began meeting with HR professionals to explore company culture. We hired Prime46 to help us engage companies and explore the topic. Our goal is to showcase our region’s great companies and their culture to potential candidates.
